چکیده

Sir,?I have read Dr. K. P. Kundu's article on 'Prawns as a possible vector of V. cholerce', published in the October 1938 issue of your Gazette, with keen interest. Heiberg (1935, 1936) as a rejoiner to the publication by Gardner and Venkatraman (1935) showed that the vibrios could be grouped into 6 by fermentation reaction of three sugars, mamose saccharose and arabinose, as Gardner and Venkatraman were of opinion that vibrios could not be grouped by biochemical reactions. Anti-lipopolysaccharide factor evokes indirect killing of virulent bacteria in kuruma prawn.

AIMS Anti-lipopolysaccharide factor (ALF) is an antimicrobial peptide (AMP) and a key effector molecule of the innate immune system in crustaceans. However, little is known about the role of its indirect killing against bacteria. The possible regulatory role of this peptide (M-ALF) in kuruma prawns, Marsupenaeus japonicus, was investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS The activities of M-ALF were i...

Vector Space semi-Cayley Graphs

The original aim of this paper is to construct a graph associated to a vector space. By inspiration of the classical definition for the Cayley graph related to a group we define Cayley graph of a vector space. The vector space Cayley graph ${rm Cay(mathcal{V},S)}$ is a graph with the vertex set the whole vectors of the vector space $mathcal{V}$ and two vectors $v_1,v_2$ join by an edge whenever...

Effects of eyestalk ablation on moulting and growth of penaeid prawn Metapenaeus dobsoni (de Man).

Penaeid prawns M. dobsoni of two different size ranges were ablated both unilaterally (UEA) and bilaterally (BEA) and subjected to individual study. The UEA prawns consumed almost the same amount of food as the control prawns in the size group, 35-40mm, but consumed about 57.8% more food than the control prawns in the larger size group, 48-53mm. Growth was estimated as length and weight changes...

Nearly 400 million people are at higher risk of schistosomiasis because dams block the migration of snail-eating river prawns

Dams have long been associated with elevated burdens of human schistosomiasis, but how dams increase disease is not always clear, in part because dams have many ecological and socio-economic effects. A recent hypothesis argues that dams block reproduction of the migratory river prawns that eat the snail hosts of schistosomiasis. In the Senegal River Basin, there is evidence that prawn populatio...
